FC Dallas enters player development deal with Bayern Munich

Once again FC Dallas has shown they are on the cutting edge of American soccer youth development.  After consistently dominating the MLS youth ranks over the last few years the club has now announced a deal with German powers Bayern Munich to work together in player development.  It seems the FC Dallas name is continuing to gain respect on a world stage.

The two clubs will come together to exchange talent, allowing young players to experience different coaching styles and settings to enhance their development.  They will collaborate on coaching, exchanging expertise that helped develop national team players, including Thomas Müller, Mats Hummels, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Kellyn Acosta. Opportunities will also be created for the youngsters to play fixtures against one another in their respective countries.

Bayern Munich seems quite keen on the deal. “The United States is home to our very first international office, highlighting our commitment to engaging and growing FC Bayern’s fan base in the Americas”, commented FC Bayern Munich’s Executive Board Member for Internationalization and Strategy, Jörg Wacker. “Our intention from the beginning has been to help support the growth of soccer in the US, supporting the existing development of players. For us FC Dallas is the ideal partner”, he added.

Recently three US homegrown players from FC Dallas visited Munich to experience the same training as FC Bayern stars. The FCD sent 16 yr old forward, Bryan Reynolds, who also represents the US at international level (U-17) along with 17 yr old Paxton Pomykal who became FC Dallas’ youngest ever starter last March. The midfielder also represents the U.S. U18 National Team. In addition, 19 yr old defender, Reggie Cannon who made his first team debut last year attended the ten day training experience.

Already the two clubs have had discussions about current players in their respective systems seeing time on loan across the Atlantic - Dallas’ youth potentially in Bayern’s system and Bayern’s youth potentially with FCD.  “You will probably see a couple FC Bayern products on our U19 Academy team next year and we will see how it goes for them,” Hunt said of the discussions already taking place. “We were trying to negotiate a player to come here, but the window closed too soon to bring over one of their reserve players that had a little bit of first team experience. I would expect in 2019, that you would see a player of that caliber coming to FC Dallas.”
